Fergs Legacy
Fergs Legacy
Story
I will be taking part in The Big Three Trek walking 150km from Sydney to Newcastle in memory of my incredible husband Scott ‘Fergs’ Ferguson who sadly passed away from brain cancer in March 2021 one month shy of meeting our daughter Isla Scott.
Fergs was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma in 2018 and fought a heroic battle against brain cancer showing courage, bravery and determination throughout his entire fight never giving up and never shying away from a challenge. Throughout his journey he underwent 2 brain surgeries 1 whilst awake, 56 sessions of radiation, 3 different types of chemotherapy, 27 immunotherapy sessions and partook in too many alternative therapies to list, all with a smile on his face.
Fergs medical team said they had never treated anyone like him, his inner strength and determination to beat this disease was unlike anything they had ever seen before. In true Fergs style he defied all medical expectations and outlived his life expectancy 5 times. Anybody who met Fergs instantly fell in love with him, he was the most genuine, loyal and down to earth person you could ever meet, his positivity was contagious and he was always up for a good time often wearing his best shit shirt. Fergs was the most amazing husband and dad to Isla and is missed every second of every day but my goal is to make sure his incredible legacy lives on by continuing to share his heroic story whilst spreading awareness for brain cancer.
Unfortunately treatment for brain cancer has not changed in over 30 years yet brain cancer kills more people under 40 and more children than any other cancer, 1 person every 5 hours is diagnosed with brain cancer and only 2 in every 10 people will survive more than 5 years with survival rates only increasing by 1% in the past 30 years however the government designates less than 5% of their federal cancer funding to this disease.
This is why we need donations for research so that no other family has to experience what mine has. We can make a change! Thank you so much for your support!
